Cv Publications' series of relocation guides to English counties was launched with my survey of Oxfordshire. It was a journey of discovery. Rather than just passing from point A to B, my excursions followed an ad hoc schedule of diverse routes. I found myself turning down obscure side lanes leading to little villages hidden in a marvelous landscape of deep countryside. Documenting over 100 centers, the county gradually revealed itself as largely unspoiled by the industrial sprawl. Oxford itself is of course very lively and cosmopolitan, but communications and facilities are as good in the many market towns. I was really interested to note the range of properties both old and new and the particular character of an area. I hope that my guide provides details and insights that will assist your own enquiries for a new location. 1. Language: English. Narrator: Sangita Chauhan. Discover the remarkable history of the Trail of Tears... In the early 1800s, the five civilized tribes - the Cherokee, Seminole, Chickasaw, Muscogee-Creek, and Choctaw - were living in lands allocated to them by the United States government in present-day Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, and Tennessee. In general, the Native American people lived in peace with the increasing numbers of white settlers coming to these areas, though there were occasional conflicts as settlers took lands that belonged to the tribes. To many white Americans, the existence of these people in lands that could be used for the expansion of the United States was unacceptable, and many wanted the Native American to be removed and relocated to a new area, west of the Mississippi River, which was not, then, of interest to settlers. In 1830, the administration of President Andrew Jackson signed into law a new piece of legislation - the Indian Removal Act - which gave the government the power to force these tribes to relocate to new lands in Indian Territory in present-day Oklahoma. The forced relocation that followed have become known as the Trail of Tears. Some were conducted with extreme brutality, and many thousands of Native American people died as a direct result. Once they had been uprooted from their homelands, many tribes found themselves unable to continue with ways of life which they had followed for thousands of years, and the nature and character of Native American culture and society was forever changed. This is an account of the privations of these forced relocation and the indifference of the US government and the majority of Americans to the suffering they caused to the Native American people. This is the story of the Trail of Tears.Discover a plethora of chapters, such as:Settlers Move WestAndrew Jackson and the Indian Removal ActCreek Removal in 1834Chickasaw Removal in 1837C 1. Have you ever had raccoons fall through your ceiling? Discovered a nest of sparrows in your hanging flower basket? Or how about woke up one morning to discover deer have nibbled on your flower garden, reducing your blossoms to stems? If so, you're not alone. The paths of humans and wildlife cross all the time, and it is the aim of this handbook to make sure those paths cross as peacefully as possible.Andrea Dawn Lopez, a former manager at Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation, Inc., in San Antonio, Texas, has distilled her knowledge of dealing with wildlife in When Raccoons Fall through Your Ceiling. She tackles a wide variety of situations that occur when human and non-human worlds clash. Have you found a baby bird on your porch? Is a snake taking up residence in your garage? Or perhaps woodpeckers are drumming against your house? Lopez offers advice on how to deal humanely with each situation with tips on relocation, repelling, and when to call in the experts (for when the bears are rattling your trash cans).Wildlife rehabilitators and state wildlife officers across the world spend many hours answering questions on the phone, teaching in classrooms, and going to people's homes to try and show them about how to better co-habit with wild animals. When Raccoons Fall through Your Ceiling is a practical handbook to codify for the general public how to deal with wildlife-related problems and concerns. It will be of interest to wildlife rehabilitation centers, state wildlife agencies, veterinarians, and those fortunate enough to live in an area enhanced by wild birds, reptiles, and mammals. This book is published by University of North Texas Press. 1. The current study deals with the emerging field of mechanical contact problems. The behavior of two dimensional uni- and bilateral, frictionless and frictional contact problems is studied by using the h-, p-, hp-, and the rp-version of the Finite Element Method. The contact constraints are introduced by the penalty method. The main focus of the work is drawn to the level of accuracy which is to be derived with the different versions of the FEM. The accuracy is measured for the unilateral Hertzian contact problem in terms of the contact stress distribution in the contact interface and its neighborhood. Additionally, the convergence of the error in strain energy norm is studied as well. Both studies prove the capability of the p-version of the Finite Element Method and its adaptive extensions. A high polynomial degree in combination with an exact representation of the curved geometry leads together with the rp-method to a very high accuracy in the contact stresses. This is achieved by relocation of a Finite Element node to the end of the contact interface where the boundary condition changes from contact to no-contact, avoiding oscillations in the high-order polynomial shape functions at this point. The convergence rate of the strain energy reveals that a singularity exists in the solution domain. This singularity is located at the end of the contact interface where the boundary condition changes from contact to no-contact. The singularity at this point is equivalent to a singularity at the end of a distributed load. Only for the case that the load value and its first derivative is zero at the end of the loading area, the singularity vanishes. As this is generally not the case for contact problems, these singularities lead to convergence rates of algebraic type for the h-, p-, and the rp-version of the FEM. The hp-version instead is able to isolate this singularity, allowing for exponential rates of convergence.
Tanneries are the oldest industries in Bangladesh of which 95 percent are concentrated in Hazaribagh area of Dhaka city. All the industries follow both manual and mechanical processing technique. Due to semi-mechanized processing technique and improper waste management huge polluting substances are discharged by the tannery units to the Hazaribagh area as well as to the Buriganga River without treatment. These waste cause serious health hazards to human and aquatic lives of adjacent area as well as overall Dhaka City. As a result, shifting of these tannery units are demanded by local people, different social and environmental movement body, government, NGOs, Dhaka WASA and different international organizations particularly UNIDO. After relocation of the tanneries, this area will certainly create a huge planning opportunity to execute. From the above perspective it is anticipated that this study is going to open a new window for urban brownfield development practices in Bangladesh and will carry a significant role to sustain a better Dhaka City.
Leather industry is one of the export oriented industries of Bangladesh which is gaining both economic and industrial importance now a day. The migration of leather tanning activity from developed to developing countries over the past four decades has also helped this manufacturing activity to increase. The main tannery area is at Hazaribagh in Dhaka. Since precautionary and protective measures have not been taken from the beginning, the environmental condition of Hazaribagh area has been deteriorating for many years. Eventually, it fosters the need of securing this development and growth of tanneries by ensuring the environmental security of the tanning sector and government has launched a relocation project of tannery industries from Hazaribagh to a new area located at Savar. But this relocation project proves to go in vain because of unwillingness to move of the tannery owners and in terms of the cost effectiveness and potential environmental threat of the new area. The redevelopment of the Hazaribagh area after relocation is also seemed to be impossible due to the enormous risk of consequence of the polluted soil, air and water to the human body and structure.
